We often take our drainage for granted. In fact, when everything works, we don’t spend the plumbing and drainage system a second thought. I mean who would? The very purpose of drainage is to make sure that all the problems are taken away. With any luck, you will never have to worry about it.

However, you will know when there is a problem that needs looking into. The results of a drainage emergency are rarely pretty, or aromatic. Often when problems start, they seem like minor inconveniences. When they turn into emergencies, the problem is only going to get worse.

Your drains start flooding in an emergency

The last thing you want is a flood in your home or business. Especially if it is because of a backed-up drain. If you’re lucky the drain will only flood a little bit and not pour over into your kitchen or bathroom. You might only notice it outside under your little grate. But don’t look at this and underestimate its significance.

Flooding drains are a clear sign that you have a blockage that requires immediate attention. This is the time to call a drainage company, before you’re ankle deep in wastewater.

Burst or dripping pipes

Water can cause a lot of damage to your home, not to mention the long-term effects of mould and damp that comes with the territory. If your pipe’s burst, or you have dripping pipes, it is important that you get these looked at immediately.

Water from burst pipes can ruin your interior. More importantly, however, the water from a burst pipe can cause structural damage. Not immediately reacting to this emergency will cost you a lot more down the road.

Bad smells from drains

Nobody expects a drain to smell like freshly ground coffee or baked bread. In fact, you must hope that most people don’t get to smell their drains at all. Considering all that is taken out of your home and into the drains, it will surprise nobody that they don’t smell great.

And the problem with a severely blocked drain is that the smell is going nowhere. If your drains start to smell badly, this is an emergency. You need someone to come out as soon as possible, not only to make sure the drains are unblocked, but for your own sanity, health, and wellbeing.

Water pressure and drainage problems

Water pressure is another thing we take for granted on a daily basis. However, when the pressure drops and you are stood under a warm trickle instead of your usual jet-powered shower, there is likely to be a blockage or a problem with your sewage system.

Water pressure problems seldom fix themselves. When you start to lose pressure, contact someone immediately to make sure the problem is resolved before it exacerbates.
